Witness
"Witness" Sunday School - Pre-School through Grade 3
Ages 3 through third graders will be using a new curriculum beginning fall
2008. Witness is published by Augsburg Fortress. As God’s children we
are witnesses to God’s action in the world. Our salvation story is a story
of God’s gifts of Word, faith, and service. Music, storytelling, drama,
crafts, and cooperative games are all tools teachers use with the Witness
curriculum.
The
Witness Sunday school curriculum teaches kids to "Learn from the Bible to Live
the Good News." Every Witness session is easy
to use and has three goals - know, grow, and show - that carry out the theme
and broaden both teachers' and learners' understanding of the story. These
goals help everyone remember what it means to be a witness in the world. A
witness is someone who:
 | KNOWS the Word |
 | GROWS in Faith, and |
 | SHOWS Service |
Witness Is:
 | Biblical: based on a strong biblical foundation |
 | Mission-oriented: dedicated to the mission to "Learn from the
Bible to Live the Good News" |
 | Salvation story focused: Committed to teaching the salvation
story each year within a complete two year cycle of
well-loved Bible stories |
 | Age-appropriate: Focused on presenting the Bible stories in a way
that engages learners appropriately for their age |
Faith Traits
Each session relates one Faith Trait to a Bible character and provides one or
more activities that develop the trait in learners -- during the Sunday school
session and at home.
Faith Traits are:
 | Generosity, kindness, humility, compassion, empathy, respect, and
thankfulness ... which flow out of the gift of love
|
 | Cooperation, loyalty, obedience, boldness, and reverence ... which are born in trust
|
 | Responsibility, self-discipline, perseverance, forgiveness, justice, and
wisdom ... which come with courage
|
 | Harmony, stewardship, patience, peace, and joy ... which shine forth from hope
