History

Charles E. Haas, our church historian, has been a remarkable resource for the congregation. In 1984, he published a labor of love, a history of the first 120 years of First Congregational Church, La Crosse. Bless the Work of Our Hands: 1852-1972 has close to 400 pages of history, photos and stories of congregational life. Copies of this book may be purchased from the church.

For the church's sesquicentennial celebration in 2002, Charles and other church members published a booklet, It Started With Twelve. Much of the information in this section of the web site is taken from this booklet.

Our church is fortunate to have photographs of each of the senior ministers who have served the congregation. They are on display in the church hallway by the Chapel.
