... About the Parking Lot Q: Will the parking lot be lower in elevation? A: It will remain at the same elevation, but will be expanded slightly and incorporate other safety and efficiency improvements. ... About the Habitat for Humanity House Q: How was Habitat chosen for the outreach project? A: The Church Council, guided by the 2004 Strategic Plan, felt Habitat for Humanity is a concrete program that blesses sponsors, recipients, and the community. Q: What are the benefits to choosing to build a Habitat house for one of the campaign outreach projects? A: It’s a tangible expression of our mission to reach out to the community. It provides a home for those in need, as well as seeding funding for future Habitat homes in our area. Additionally, this will foster fellowship within our church as members embrace this project and get involved. Q: Will we be able to help build the Habitat house? A: Church members are certainly welcome to help build the house we finance … and other Habitat houses in the region. In fact, a Habitat project is able to utilize volunteer assistance from people of all ages and abilities, i.e. youth could help build window boxes, pre-teens could provide babysitting for volunteers, trades people could help in their area of expertise. Q: Will we be able to select the family for the Habitat house? A: The local Habitat organization will handle this, using their normal criteria. Q: Does our church need to take on the whole building project ourselves; could we get some other churches involved? A: Our goal is to fully finance a house, but we have many options, which will be driven by the dollars approved by the congregation for this project. Another concept we could consider is an “Apostle’s Build” approach in which we collaborate with other churches (or organizations) for finances and volunteers. |
